Job Title: Meter Reader
Location: Ruidoso, NM
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Duration: 6 Month contract with the possibility of getting hired on
Pay: $18.89
Job Description:
Accurately reads and records electric and gas meter readings within defined performance levels
Maintains production levels by accessing electric and gas meters within defined performance levels
Works safely to avoid accidents and injuries and support safety goals
Inspects meters and/or connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections, and records/reports irregularities
Walks or drives company vehicle over established meter reading routes
Operates and maintains electronic meter reading devices, including peripheral equipment
Verifies meter readings to identify/locate abnormal consumption and records reasons for fluctuations
May perform credit functions such as preparation and/or delivery of credit notices, reports diversion activity, and customer related contacts, as needed and/or assigned Initiates requests for service orders and inquiries in response to customer service contacts or field contacts
Requirements of This Position:
High school diploma or GED
Prior experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to meter reading.
Clear Driving Record
Background Check and Drug Screen and Credit check required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may stand and/or walk up to 95% of the time depending on the assigned routes. Manual and physical dexterity required and the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, jump, climb, operate a hand-held data capture device and/or operate a vehicle. Ability to talk and listen. Ability to lift and/or maneuver up to 25 pounds. Must be able to read meters accurately at various distances with or without binoculars.
Must be able to work and be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Outdoor environment. Must be able to respond effectively to people and animals.
COMPETENCIES:
Ability to read and data-capture a high volume of numerical meter readings with accuracy and speed
Working knowledge and ability to complete assigned routes in accordance with Company standards for accuracy and access
Ability to respond to customer inquiries, concerns and/or problems in an effective, professional and courteous manner
Working knowledge of and ability to operate data-capture meter reader device
Ability to identify and report meter diversion
Ability to work effectively and independently with general supervision
Working knowledge of energy diversion procedures
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and/or written information
Ability to write correspondence
Ability to effectively provide clear information in one-on-one situations, such as to customers, or to other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic computer skills
Ability to operate and maintain data capture meter reading devices and peripheral data transmission equipment
Ability to translate readings, comments, and input data into small hand held computer
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions. Ability to effectively resolve problems/issues in a limited range of situations.
