Physical Education & Facilities Coordinator (Grades K-8)

Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences, an expeditionary learning school, is seeking a full-time innovative, dynamic, collaborative Physical Education Teacher and Facilities Coordinator with a strong background in teaching elementary and middle school and in physical education for the 2024-25 school year. The annual contract would start three weeks before the first day of school and end two weeks after the last day of school.

We are especially interested in candidates who are mindful and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary connections, to support future program innovations and our commitment to racial justice and equality.

The successful candidate will understand the developmental needs of children and adolescents (ages 5-14). They will model and promote the school’s character traits of respect, trust, courage, honesty, compassion, and stewardship. Our school upholds the values of diversity and inclusivity and the successful candidate is able to create a safe and nurturing learning environment in which all students are respected. Additionally, the candidate must be flexible and an excellent communicator and collaborator. A deep understanding of elementary and middle school pedagogy and a commitment to the academic and social/emotional growth of students is essential.

Important aspects of the position include:

● Teaming with colleagues to help further differentiate instruction to challenge, enrich, and support a diverse group of learners

● Acting as a caring and committed homeroom/crew teacher

● Teach an afterschool club that connects a teacher’s passion and the interest of our students

● Work with our Campus as Curriculum team to keep our 5-acre campus growing and evolving with outdoor spaces for learning and exploration.

Qualifications and Attributes

● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, or a related field

● Experience working with elementary and Middle School students as a P.E. teacher or related subject area

● A passion for physical, movement, and sports education

● Understanding of learning styles and differentiated instruction

● Ability to design hands-on, experiential learning activities that advance learning and present real-life opportunities

● Affinity and enthusiasm for working with adolescents

● Communicate effectively, clearly, and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues

● Capacity to inspire others

● Commitment to diversity and inclusivity

● Strong work ethic

● Willingness to learn and improve professionally and collaborate with a team

● Sound judgment and emotional maturity

● Willingness to engage in the Arts & Sciences community

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities - PE Teacher

● Develop curriculum and activities that are aligned with the school’s academic standards, mission, and vision

● Teach weekly and bi-weekly PE classes for K-8th students

● Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students

● Incorporate direct instruction, discussion, projects, and cooperative work to engage all students, keep classes focused, and infuse a lasting desire to learn

● Develop and maintain student portfolios in accordance with school standards and philosophy

● Substitute and co-teach in classes where appropriate

● Develop and use a variety of assessments that measure progress toward academic goals

● Attend staff and divisional meetings, workshops and conferences

Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Facilities Coordinator

● Work with principal and administration on keeping buildings and outdoor campus safe and in working order

● Communicate with outside contractors, carpenters, plumbers, etc

● Prepare campus for school year and summer camps

● Coordinate with teachers when incorporating learning into the outdoor environment

● Organize school maintenance supplies and storage areas

● Work with principal to maintain scheduled maintenance plans

● Supervise and communicate with head of cleaning crew

Professional Development

Teachers at Arts & Sciences develop a culture where professional development is expected and embedded in the daily fabric of our school. Professional development includes large group presentations, grade level or team meetings, workshops, peer observations, team teaching, and offsite institutes and workshops.
