Busy PM&R Physiatrist in Albuquerque is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time Medical Assistant/Scribe to assist in caring for patients in a busy, physical medicine rehabilitation facility as well as an outpatient clinic. Candidates should possess excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to multitask, and strong organizational skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reporting directly to the physiatrist, the major duties and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant/Scribe include but are not limited to the following clinical and administrative duties:
Inpatient Scribe Duties:
- SCRIBE for all inpatient visits including consultations, progress visits and discharge summaries
- Document accurately to reflect patient’s current health status as well the discussion of diagnosis and treatment during visit
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with patients, physiatrist, other providers and inpatient staff
- Comply with specific standards that apply to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential.
- Consultations, progress notes and discharge summaries will be reviewed by the physiatrist for accuracy, format, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Maintain billing spreadsheet to document visits and procedure codes
Outpatient Medical Assistant Duties:
- Escort patients to/from exam room obtain/clarify/update medical history, obtain vital signs as needed, preparing patients for examination, and setting up materials as needed by physiatrist
- Triage and process clinical messages from patients to physiatrist as needed
- Document accurately to reflect patient’s current health status as well the visit discussion of diagnosis and treatment
- Provide compassionate patient support, care, attention, and assistance during office visits and other correspondence methods
- Explain treatments and/or procedures to patients prior to obtaining written or verbal consent
- Educate patients about procedures, medications, pre/post care regimens, diagnoses, etc.
- Transmit prescriptions and refills as directed by providers
- Keep gowns, supplies, handouts, etc. stocked in outpatient clinic
- Sterilize and package instruments
- Complete prescription enrollment forms, prior-authorizations, and appeals as needed
Administrative Duties:
- Use of computer applications
- Compose letters to patients and referring providers/PCPs as needed
- Handle correspondence via phone, fax, and email
Required Experience:
- Proficiency in administrative tasks
- Basic understanding of clinical tasks
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Familiarity with digital record systems
Qualifications:
- Positive attitude and professional demeanor. Previous medical experience is highly preferred.
Medical Assistant/Scribe must have knowledge of:
- Medical terminology
- Grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Knowledge of EHRs
- HIPPA compliant

Salary:
- Competitive compensation: $18 - $25 per hour based upon experience
