What You Will DoThe Strategic Planning and Analysis office (SPA) in the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) provides systematic analysis, decision support, and strategic planning for a diverse portfolio of projects and decision makers. Among other things, we engage in process simulation modeling and apply systems/industrial engineering and operations research methods to national security programs. As such, we are seeking a highly experienced process simulation modeler.As a senior simulation modeler and analyst, you will develop and deploy modeling tools, conduct systematic analyses, contribute to large-scale technical projects, interact and collaborate with customers and partner organizations, and serve as a technical resource and mentor to other staff. Modeling tasks will involve utilizing various simulation modeling platforms and techniques, including customizing modeling and analysis tools through programming/scripting languages. Additionally, customer interaction, data elicitation, process flow diagramming, and documentation will be a part of most modeling and analysis projects.What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:Technical Knowledge

Advanced, demonstrated experience in process simulation modeling and process model development.

Demonstrated experience with programming languages and coding principles.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with statistical methods and techniques as applied to simulation modeling.

Communication/Collaboration

Effective written and oral skills, including the ability to interact with and solicit information from subject matter experts.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information to a broad audience through presentations, reports, and verbal communication.

Ability to work effectively as a part of a team in multi-disciplinary environment.

Analysis skills

Demonstrated analysis skills including compiling, interpreting data, and presenting analysis results.

The ability to recognize and assess technical problems and develop technical options as well as the ability to translate elicited data into effective requirements and planning assumptions.

Demonstrated experience independently applying problem-solving techniques to data, results, and simulations.

Technical leadership

Demonstrated experience leading design/development, analyses, or research in support of complex projects.

Education

Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:Operations research / Industrial engineering

Knowledge of operations research or industrial engineering principles (such as process improvement, decision support, process analysis, cost/benefit analysis, sensitivity analysis, optimization, risk analysis, reliability analysis, etc.).

Modeling and simulation tools and programming

Advanced experience with commercial discrete-event simulation software (such as ExtendSim, Simio, etc.)

Demonstrated experience with simulation software customization.

Data Analysis/Processing

Familiarity with databases and working with large datasets (SQL, Access, Pandas, etc.)

Familiarity with processing data using statistics and visualization techniques (JMP, R, Microstrategy, etc.)

Weapons Production/National Laboratories

Familiarity with weapons production missions at Los Alamos. Experience working with National Laboratories or other government agencies.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
