SUMMARY
New Mexico School for the Arts’ Visual Arts Department (VAD) is seeking a full-time Visual Arts Instructor in Digital and Electronic Arts to begin January 6, 2025 or sooner if available, at the high school level (with a possibility for renewal for SY 25-26 pending job review). New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA) is New Mexico’s only public, statewide charter high school that serves young artists with a rigorous, award-winning pre-professional arts and academics program. The teaching course load is 3 courses per semester Monday – Friday, and Advisory class that meets for 25 minutes each Monday, includes hosting Open Studio one night a week (5-7 pm), and maintaining the digital lab and maker space studio equipment and budget. The position includes various other duties in the Visual Art Department assigned by the Visual Arts Chair, including installing and de-installing exhibitions. Areas of teaching experience and professional expertise should include, but are not limited to: New/Emergent Media (VR, coding, game design, interactive media, CAD Systems, Processing Language, 3D Modeling, Cycling 74’ MAX etc.), Photography (primarily digital, film photography and analog a plus), Digital Skills (basic computer/device skills), Graphic Design, Media Arts (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.), Digital Animation, and basic Video/Sound recording and editing.
This Instructor works closely with the Visual Arts Chair and other Visual Arts Faculty in crafting and delivering a well-rounded, 4-year college preparatory foundation in the Visual Arts that prepares 9-12th grade students for successful application to competitive higher education arts programs, as well as creative and critical aptitude applicable to any field of study and civic engagement. Students are admitted to the Visual Arts Department on promise, passion, and aptitude for the visual arts through an admission workshop process. Teachers are closely mentored and supported by professional development opportunities to achieve these goals.

REQUIREMENTS
Maintain professional, timely, and supportive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community
Preferred: 1-3 years teaching experience at the high school and/or college level
Ability to teach the course content listed with technical skills to operate and teach InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator
Ability to teach New Emergent Media: Virtual Reality, Game Design, Interactive Technologies, and other Electronic Arts as desired.
Professional record of engagement in the studio arts/studio practice
A satisfactory fingerprint-based background check is required prior to employment
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
BFA in Studio Art required (Art History minor a plus), MFA in Studio Art highly preferred or equivalent progressional experience.
Candidates DO NOT need to acquire New Mexico Public Education licensure but are encouraged to.
