Position: Café Manager
Accountable to: CEO

Purpose:
The SFFM Cafe Manager oversees the Market Hall Café and Café Fresh coffee shop, and insures that they both provide fast, friendly and efficient customer service while making a profit to support the
Farmers Market.
Accountabilities:
Managing Cafes:
Set up, work at, break down, and clean up both cafes each market day throughout the year.
Reconcile market-day proceeds from the cafes and deposit the money into the safe.
Interact with all the various suppliers for both cafes, verifying invoices, arranging for deliveries & pick ups
Ensure vendors abide by SFFM Board directives regarding local sourcing
Interact with market vendors on market day, addressing their concerns and requests
Maintain all equipment (required familiarity with commercial espresso machines and commercial refrigeration and freezer equipment, as well as convection ovens, ansul systems, and commercial ranges)
Abide by NM Environment Department regulations and ensure cafes meet health and sanitation guidelines
Ensure consistent quality in all sales items
Make/cook from scratch menu items such as soups and other items as added to the menu
Staffing for both Cafes:
Hire, supervise, and evaluate cafe staff for both cafes
Coordinate schedules with staff to account for the seasonal nature of business
Receive & verify time sheets from staff and track staff expenditures
Enforce food and drink, COVID-19 and SFFM overall policies
Ensure all staff has a valid food handlers certificate
Delegate tasks & train new employees
Administration work for both Cafes:
Purchase regularly used perishable items on a weekly basis
Order dry goods as needed
Research, get bids, and evaluate capital expenditures
Track inventory and purchase all supplies as needed
Track the profitability of both cafes in order to insure that income goals of the current budget are being met
Work with suppliers and market farmers to integrate more local ingredients into the menu
Review the system to track the profitability of specific items or groups of items, track the profitability of these items, and create reports on results
Order and deliver food for monthly board meetings
Use personal vehicle on weekly basis for local errands (mileage reimbursement)
Work with management staff on advertising and marketing for the cafes
Accept deliveries and arrange and organize the café’s area in the walk-in
Breakdown for special events
Responsible for all ordering for both cafes
Work with other management staff in order to achieve organizational goals
Use personal vehicle for local errands on a weekly basis
Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
At least 1 year of management experience
1 year or more experience in preparing food/cooking
Friendly and customer-service oriented
Self-directed and able to handle all of the various aspects of running both cafes
Willingness to take fiscal responsibility for the ongoing profitability and growth of both cafes
Familiarity with commercial espresso machines and commercial refrigeration and freezer equipment, as well as convection ovens, ansul systems, and commercial ranges)
Knowledge of and interest in supporting small-scale agriculture and local food initiatives
Exceptional organizational and management skills
Transparent, honest, and courteous in all interpersonal interactions with vendors/members, staff, board, committee members, and the public
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to be flexible, responsive, and think on your feet in stressful situations
Basic computer and phone skills with a working proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Comfort using Facebook and other social media platforms
Dedication to showing up consistently for early morning markets (as early as 5AM on Saturdays during 6 months of the year)
Ability to be on your feet for hours at a time and work long shifts when needed
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Must have own vehicle and valid driver license
