A successful non-profit seeks a Full Time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to attend the needs of elderly religious brothers.
The Saint Michaels Community located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is searching for a Full Time CNA to work night shifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00am to 8:00am. The CNA will assist the retired Christian Brothers maintain optimal independence by assisting with activities of daily living. Observe the overall physical and psychological condition of the Brothers, records pertinent information; reports changes in conditions to the Saint Michaels Assisted Living Nurse Manager and maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment for the Brothers while also performing a variety of required daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks. The Christian Brothers are members of a Catholic religious order.
De La Salle Institutes (DLSI) purpose is to serve and support the Brothers, Partners and Apostolates of the San Francisco New Orleans District of the Christian Brothers, whose mission is a human and Christian education for the young, especially the poor. The Saint Michaels Community belongs to DLSI, a religious nonprofit organization. Under the direction of the Saint Michaels Assisted Living Nurse Manager the successful candidate will perform the following duties:
PERSONAL CARE
o Assists the aging Brothers with personal care, which includes but is not limited to personal hygiene, oral care, shaving, showering, dressing, ambulation, therapeutic exercises, feeding, personal laundry and toileting.
o Such assists will vary from Brother to Brother depending on condition and ability.
OBSERVATION, RECORDING AND REPORTING
o Observes Brothers physical conditions by monitoring vital signs, weights; intake and output; response to new medications; changes in conditions.
o Observes Brothers psychosocial conditions, cognition, and adaptation.
o Records vital signs, weights, I & O, changes in medication and condition in individual records.
o Reports changes in conditions, medications, nursing or medical orders using a report sheet.
o Reports critical condition changes and accidents / incidents to supervising RN immediately.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
o Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by following infection control standards, removing or (having removed) hazards from environment such as broken equipment;
o Requests repair of repairable equipment
o Encourages the use of safety aides such as walkers where warranted;
o Keeps supplies clean, organized and safely stored.
o Maintain neat, clean, organized workspace, kitchen area and treatment areas
MEDICATION and TREATMENT ASSISTANCE
o Stores clearly marked medications in locked cabinet(s).
o Assists with medication administration as directed by the supervising nurse
o Notes any adverse reactions or side effects and reports these to the supervising nurse.
o May be required to report changes in condition or adverse reactions to medications to the physician if the registered nurse or licensed designee is unavailable.
o Coordinates prescription services with local and mail order pharmacies making sure that supplies are sufficient.
o Notes actual medication orders and makes changes on medication records as needed.
o Keeps RN informed of changes in medications made by the physicians.
o Informs other health care professionals of medication changes as requested by RN or designee.
o Administers minor, routine treatments prescribed by a physician and as instructed by the supervising RN or as instructed by home health / hospice nurses and/ or therapists.
SUPPLY MAINTENANCE
o Coordinates and organizes inventory of OTC medications, first aide supplies, juices, beverages, food supplies, paper products and other department supplies.
o Obtains RN approval before ordering supplies
o Processes medical, office and kitchen supply orders, receives shipments and reviews statements for accuracy prior to supervisor or director approval
o Rotates stock of supplies so that older supplies are used first
COORDINATION OF CARE
o Adheres to individual nursing plans of care.
o Assists RN with coordination of care including special needs, medical and dental appointments, therapy, and home care.
o Assists with department scheduling / assume duty as directed.
o Coordinates and prioritizes personal laundry assistance for more dependent Brothers.
o Assist in coordination of housekeeping needs including special projects, emergency needs or changes needed or requested by the Brothers.
o Follows daily schedule of community activities
o Encourage participation in recreational or therapeutic activities.
TEAMWORK
o Cheerfully assists coworkers, peers and supervisor as needed
o Maintains open lines of communication
o Welcomes new employees
o Assist in orientation and education of new staff and registry staff as needed.
o Perform other duties and special projects as needed
HOUSEKEEPING
o Perform a variety of cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing
o Laundry Service washes, dries, and fold linen and personal clothing
o Iron as needed
MEAL PREP
o Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc
o Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen
o Maintain proper handwashing guidelines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certificate of completion of Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program
Current BLS/CPR Certification required
First Aide certification required
Minimum 1 year of experience working with Geriatric population
Experience with rehabilitation methods and goals
Previous acute care experience
