At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Assistant in Instructional Services (Physics 7-12) position in the Office of State Assessment. This office is responsible for the development and statewide administration of all State examinations for elementary, intermediate, and high school students. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Conduct activities related to the development the Regents Science examinations and other science exams as assigned, including convening, and facilitating review committees, participating in committee work and scoring sessions to provide content expertise in development of State exams while reviewing and revising test questions, and working with stakeholder groups; Collaborate with teacher-consultants and participate as needed in test development activities in science, including training, assigning, and reviewing the work of teacher-consultants to perform a wide range of test development tasks; Manage the work of teacher-contractors supporting the development of the Regents level science Examinations and other science exams as assigned; Prepare and review examinations, rubrics and supplementary test materials and monitoring their progress through the various phases of development, including translations and printing; Collaborate with other internal offices to support the implementation of the New York State P12 Science Learning Standards (NYSP12SLS) and developing materials for new assessments aligned to these standards; and Develop guidance and supplemental materials for the field and representing the Department at meetings and projects related to the NYS assessments; Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent, competitive appointment or a contingent permanent, non-competitive appointment.
