Position Title: Camp Director
Reports to: Board President and Board Chair of Camp Operations
Position Purpose:
The Camp Director works closely with the Board President and Board Chair of Camp Operations to plan and ensure a safe, organized, and fun camp program for all campers, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This individual will support the mission of Friends of Camp Little Notch by managing the day-to-day operations of all Camp Little Notch (CLN) summer residential camp programs. The Camp Director will oversee the coordination of all activities and schedules and supervise all aspects of the CLN season related to summer residential camp programs. May coordinate and assist in programs, rentals, special events, and open camping experiences.
Period of Employment:
2025 Season
Full-time residence onsite for the spring, summer, and fall camp events, rentals, programs, and residential girl’s camp.

$45,000

Responsibilities
Administrative Duties:
Agree and abide by the Friends of Camp Little Notch, Inc. (FoCLN) Personnel Policies, a copy of which is provided with this agreement, as they are currently in effect, and as they may be amended by FoCLN from time to time
Work in collaboration with the Board of Directors designee to ensure all necessary preparations before camp and through the regular season
Serve as the “First Face” and provide a positive experience for all visitors to CLN, including but not limited to; campers, parents, volunteers, staff, alumni, and board members
Plan and execute pre-camp staff training
Plan and execute all required emergency drills and rehearsals
Set a positive tone and maintain high staff morale
Share responsibility for maintaining good public relations with all visitors and businesses
Collaborate with the Property Committee, Property Caretaker, Volunteer Committee, and Board President for the opening and closing of camp as well as work weekends and other property related work
Responsible for equipment inventories, staff evaluations, and any reports deemed necessary
Manage staff meetings and leadership team/unit leader meetings
Maintain and comply with camp health and safety procedures per ACA and NYS DOH regulations
Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures as related to the operation of CLN
Oversee the use of all program equipment and ensure the safe and correct use of the property
Make recommendations for, and monitor the implementation of, camp operations budget
Ensure that health, nutrition, and sanitation supplies are acquired within the allotted budget for all program activities
Promptly report any property concerns or maintenance issues directly to the President of the Board and the Property Caretaker
Immediately report any incidents to the President of the Board verbally, and follow-up with a written report within 24 hours
Assist with marketing and promotion of FoCLN/CLN programs and events, as directed
Obtain all necessary permits for the operation of both Summer Children’s program and campground with assistance from Business Manager
Ensure that all staff, volunteers, and visitors follow all camp policies, rules, and procedures
Participate in staff and other program volunteer development and the completion of performance evaluations for staff within a defined time frame
Maintain the proper paper and electronic records as required by camp policies for both campers and staff
Uphold the traditions of Camp Little Notch
Produce a monthly camp director report, to be submitted to the Board of Directors before each board meeting; produce a Summer Sessions Summary Report for the Annual Meeting by and a Camp Director Annual Report, encompassing all camp operations and programs, by September 30, 2025
Perform other duties as assigned by the President of the Board
Camp Program:
Serve as a program resource for other staff
Encourage creative, flexible programs that utilizes the site and surrounding area
Serve as a resource on program specifics as they relate to the mission of FoCLN
Hold regular meetings with specialists, unit leaders, and counselors to review program plans for balance and progression
Identify natural hazards and environmental risks and take steps to control them
Know and teach emergency procedures
Responsible for the placement of campers and staff in units
Maintain excellent communication with campers, parents and other staff
Lead in staff meetings, daily leadership team meetings, and other meetings as directed
Facilitate planning of all-camp activities and other events
Function as a unit staff member when necessary
Take an active role in the continual evaluation of campers, programs and staff
Site Director for Rental Groups, Open Camping, and FoCLN Weekend Events:
Maintain open and regular communication with Board President and property personnel regarding bookings and site use and confirm, if applicable, volunteer coordinators and paid staff as needed for rentals, open camping, and weekend events, including, but not limited to:
o Registration and staff check-in
o Food service
o Lifeguards/waterfront
o Adventure ropes course
o Programming activities
o Maintenance or volunteer property stewards
Confirm that the property is presentable and ready for check-in or check-out of groups or camper
Other tasks as required
Qualifications:
Minimum age 25 years or holds a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Administrative and supervisory experience in a resident camp setting
Understand and uphold the mission of Friends of Camp Little Notch
Ability to live, work, empower, and lead a tight knit, diverse community of children and adults from different backgrounds, life experiences and identities
Background in youth development
Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead an effective camp staff team
First aid and CPR/AED certification
ACA Camp Director Certification preferred
Current driver’s license and clean driving record
Knowledge of camp program standards, safety rules and program progression
Knowledge of ACA standards and the NYS DOH requirements pertaining to children’s camps
Competent in a variety of camp and outdoor activities
Ability to respond calmly and with good judgment in a crisis situation
Knowledgeable in and able to respond to mandated reporter requirements
Be able to pass the required Background checks
Essential Functions:
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and volunteers
Physical ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
Ability to endure standing for long hours and perform activities such as running, bending, stooping, and stretching
Ability to traverse varying terrain, from flat to hilly, while moving between activities
Ability to operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat, rain and varying environmental conditions
Ability to live and work in a camp setting with children and adults 24 hours a day, with a minimum of privacy, while maintaining a high level of energy, enthusiasm and a good sense of humor
