Application Deadline for this position is March 28th, 2024.Basic Job Functions The Botanical Garden Aide, under direct supervision, will be working on the Outdoor Gardens crew in the maintenance of the outdoor gardens and collections, which includes planting and maintaining a diverse collection of plants across the various gardens and seasonal plantings. The Botanical Garden Aide will assist with maintenance of plants in the holding areas and works outdoors in all weather. Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture throughout the institution. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with planting and maintaining perennials, annuals, bulbs, trees and shrubs in gardens and herbaceous collections across the landscape.
Assist with the planting, watering, fertilizing and grooming of all plant materials used in seasonal plantings.
Assist with plant propagation.
Assist with invasive plant removal.
Assist with snow removal.
Help monitor and treat plant health problems in outdoor gardens areas.
Operate small machinery when necessary.
Other related work as required.
Qualifications
High school Graduate or GED Preferred
The ability to follow instructions and to work as part of a team.
The ability to perform strenuous physical tasks in a variety of conditions.
Minimum 6 months working with plants in gardening or landscaping position.
Flexibility to work different schedules including Saturdays and Sundays, and overtime if required.
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a license within 3 months of employment.
