The City of Buffalo Civil Service does require tribal enrollment or community recognition as a Native American) POSITION: Community Resource Leader - Permanent SALARY: $51,418 - $60,782 LOCATION: Department of Family & Community Engagement Distinguishing Features of the Class The Community Resource Leader works under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Federal and State Programs and provides resources needed by students in the Neglected and Delinquent Programs, facilitates parent involvement activities, and provides outreach to parents in extended learning opportunity programs. The Community Resource Leader assists with the planning and implementation of the educational program provided to students placed in agencies that house Neglected and Delinquent Youth, and confers with agency personnel on program matters. The incumbent assists with organizing various district parent involvement initiatives, and will monitor appropriate extended learning program operations. No supervisory duties are exercised. Typical Work Activities

Assists with the implementation and coordination of educational services to agencies that house incarcerated youth;

Assists with providing instructional supplies and materials to these agencies;

Assists with monitoring the daily instructional program provided to these students by the BPS staff;

Communicates with agency personnel regarding the Buffalo Public School’s policies and procedures as they pertain to Neglected and Delinquent Youth;

Acts as a liaison, assisting parents with connecting to community resources, agencies and programs;

Prepares and maintains records and reports regarding activities and follow-ups;

Performs related duties as required.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Good knowledge of the Federal and State Educational Laws pertaining to incarcerated youth

Working knowledge of the Buffalo Public School system;

Ability to understand and interpret written material;

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

Ability to work effectively with students, parents/guardian, community agencies, school personnel;

Ability to engage parent involvement;

Courtesy, tact; sensitivity;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

(A) Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services or a closely related field and two years full-time experience in school and/or community related work;

OR

(B) Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human services and four years of full-time experience in school and/or community related work involving students;

OR

(C) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and six years of full-time experience in school and/or community related work involving students;

NOTE: Verifiable part-time or volunteer experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements.

Proof of education must be presented at time of appointment .
