As a professional nurse, the charge nurse is responsible for assisting in the management of resources necessary and appropriate for the provision of achievement of positive patient outcomes. As a professional nurse, the charge nurse participates in creating and maintaining an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.Responsibilities:EDUCATION

Graduate from an accredited Registered Nursing Program

Current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State

BLS, ACLS validation is required within six (6) months

All candidates must meet one (1) of the following additional education requirements:

a) Nursing certification within eighteen (18) months of hire/transfer ORb) Active/current enrollment in a BSN program with an anticipated graduation date within eighteen months of hire/transfer ORc) BSN

All incumbents will be required to attend and complete a minimum of two (2) CHU courses within one year of hire/transfer, contingent upon course availability (course examples: "Leading with Emotional Intelligence", "Leading Millennials", "Working with you is Killing Me", "Managing Conflict" etc.)

EXPERIENCE

Minimum two (2) years recent clinical experience

Active involvement in at least one of the nursing committees (UPC, Nursing Practice, Nursing Research, Charge RN, etc.) as demonstrated by attendance at five (5) Nursing committee meetings within the previous two (2) years and must continue with involvement while in position

Must have timely completed and maintained all hospital mandatory education requirements for the previous two (2) years

Recent, within previous one (1) year, active involvement as a charge RN or RN "primary" preceptor or RN mentor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Demonstrates leadership abilities

Excellent communication skills

Certification in specific area preferred

Computer literate

Competent in current healthcare technology

Actively involved in productivity and staffing

Is a leader in healthcare technology innovations and promotes these innovations in the capacity of super-user / train the trainer

WORKING CONDITIONS

The ability to cope with stress and handle multiple priorities is required.

May also be exposed to communicable diseases.
