Qualifications –A High School degree or equivalent required. Two-year technical degree or trade school in Auto Mechanics preferred. Require four years’ experience as a vehicle mechanic and minimum of one year of supervisory experience. Knowledge of DMV and DOT regulations pertaining to vehicle maintenance requirements and ability to perform repairs. Must have or obtain a New York State CDL License within placement into position. The ability to use technology and computer programs is required. Additional Qualifications – A working knowledge of various vehicles and bus repairs. A working knowledge of motor vehicle operations, NYS Vehicle and traffic Law, OSHA and DOT regulations as it relates to garage operations and DOT assigned vehicles. Relevant Certifications – Certified to conduct NYS Vehicle Inspections. Heavy Duty Inspection License. Work Authorization/Security Clearance –Authorized to work in the United States. Summary/Objective –The supervising mechanic is responsible for the supervision of garage personnel, management of garage inventory, the care and maintenance of equipment, and maintaining a current knowledge of new procedures and techniques which will assist with the overall management of vehicle maintenance and repair. As a primary duty, the Supervising mechanic will work alongside other mechanics in completing day to day repairs and vehicle services. Essential Functions –
Coordinates and prioritizes work assignments based on vehicle condition reports, preventative maintenance schedules for internal and external work.
Maintains inventory and order parts and needed materials, using computer systems for purchases, repairs, inventory, process billing, etc.
Ensures the garage work areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner. Responsible for ensuring mechanics work in a safe manner.
Responsible for assisting in developing more efficient methods for repairs and maintenance.
Responsible for the direct supervision of mechanics assigned to work area.
Provides hands-on guidance for vehicle maintenance and repair. Provides mechanics instruction on vehicle repairs and assist with mechanical repairs, as needed.
Knowledge of computer operations; proficiency with developing more efficient methods for repairs and maintenance.
Advise Supervisor of general status and condition of all agency vehicles at least monthly.
Establish and maintain a positive relationship with vendors when purchasing needed parts.
Responsible to ensure only authorized use of garage and equipment.
Assist with data collection on fleet repairs for agency and county contracts.

Ability to provide supervision of mechanics and provide instruction on vehicle repairs working in a team environment
Supervisory Responsibility – Provides direct supervision of all assigned mechanics.
Travel – Respond to all service call-outs with an Agency Vehicle.
Work Environment – The Garage Supervisor/Mechanic will operate in the garage environment and will model and expect professionalism within this environment. The Garage Supervisor/Mechanic will use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, fax machines, etc. to conduct daily business. As needed, the Garage Supervisor/Mechanic will respond to after hour vehicle calls related to disabled vehicle needs. The Garage Supervisor/Mechanic will periodically have engagement in the community as it relates to garage business.
Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time; walk; use hands to operate equipment, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and be able to lift, exert force, must be able to lift up to 30lbs regularly; 50lbs occasionally or with assistance.
