School Monitor (Secondary)

School Monitor (Secondary) Koda Middle School 3.5 hrs/day, 10 mos/year Shenendehowa Central School District has an anticipated vacancy and is now accepting applications. The District is seeking culturally proficient individuals who actively foster an engaging environment where students can develop confidence in their own success consistent with the Profile of a Shenendehowa Employee (https://www.shenet.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/49646shen-24x36v1.pdf) . Job Responsibilities The work involves a variety of non-teaching duties, the supervision of students and student activities and maintaining a safe and respectful environment. Student supervision takes place in a variety of settings and may include hallways/corridors, study halls, cafeteria, bus ports, and campus grounds, including playgrounds or common areas. Responsibilities may include:

Oversees and monitors student behaviors, helps maintain order by removing students in the event of unruly behavior;

Monitors interactions between students, intervening when a situation appears to require it, by providing crisis prevention and intervention to avoid physical altercations and/or harm;

Greets visitors, ascertains their business, ensures appropriate safety protocols are taken before permitting/directing the individual(s) to the proper location;

Takes attendance and ensures the whereabouts for students that are on campus, but not in assigned classroom, issues passes to students who are late to class, and may escort or transport assigned students between classes within the school;

Collaborates and communicates regularly with building level administration;

May act as student liaison to raise issues/concerns to the attention of teachers, counselors, and/or administrators;

May occasionally perform clerical duties such as filing and making photocopies; and additional duties as assigned by administration.

Compensation & Benefits

Step 1 ($19.11/hr) – Step 5 ($21.63/hr)

Certifications/Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and experience with youth desirable. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration. Exhibit good judgement, mental alertness, tact and courtesy. Physical condition commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
