Job DescriptionMAIN FUNCTION:The Echo Lab Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations within the Cardiac Echo Lab. Performs echocardiographic procedures of diagnostic value to be interpreted by cardiologists and/or other referring physicians, responsible for the success of a team of experienced sonographers. Reports to Cardiovascular Practice Manager.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Oversees daily operations and ensures that self and technicians perform appropriate number of studies daily that are accurate and follow quality guidelines.2. Performs all inpatient and outpatient two dimensional, Doppler, and M-mode echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms and peripheral vascular examinations on both adults and pediatric patients through all phases of their appropriate procedure.3. Performs inpatient and outpatient resting echocardiograms in all ancillary mobile clinics served by the Arnot Health Heart and Vascular Institute. This responsibility will be shared with the rest of the staff.
Achieves, maintains, and shares working knowledge and understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
Assists with scheduling all inpatient and outpatient echocardiograms.
The Supervisor must act as an effective role model within the department contributing to the education, training, development, and positive morale of the technical staff.
7. Responsible for staff scheduling in the lab.8. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for daily use.
Performs minor equipment repairs and calibration, as appropriate. Act as the liaison between sonography staff and equipment service representatives.
Assists physicians in performing sterile procedures as necessary.
Will share responsibility for the training and orientation of additional sonographers or department staff, including per diem sonographers.
Provides age-appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs and leadership meetings as required by position.

EDUCATION: Active certification in Adult Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent. Graduate from an approved program desirable, but not required.EXPERIENCE: Five years of experience as a certified sonographer required.CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts may involve lifting, pushing and pulling. Work requires lifting up to 40 pounds. Patient assistance and lifting is required.EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
