Phlebotomist IJob DescriptionThe main function of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.
Update patient information and collect/store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
