Job Summary: Set up and operate a variety of machine equipment to produce precision parts and tooling. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools by applying knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures.Essential Functions:
Safely work alone at times, following safe work practices & lock out/tagout practices as required.
Practice 5S and lean concepts with the focus on keeping work area clean and organized.
Undertake a variety of jobs, in some cases with limited instruction or information from the originator.
Work from sketches, verbal instruction, and print information to manufacture/modify parts and/or tooling according to specifications.
Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used to manufacture/modify the parts and/or tooling in preparation of fabrication.
Manufacture/modify parts and/or tooling to specifications using machine tools such as CNC mills/lathes, manual mills/lathes, drill presses, sanders, grinders, and other support equipment.
Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform manufacturing/modification of parts and/or tooling.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges, outside diameter gauges, etc.
Read and interpret blueprints to ensure parts and/or tooling are being made according to specifications.
Ensure all equipment is running properly.
Interact with engineering and direct labor employees regarding parts and/or tooling being fabricated for their applications/duties.
Incorporate and/or offer suggestions to engineering and direct labor employees on more cost effective, more efficient or safer alternatives to the parts and/or tooling being fabricated for their applications/duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Education / Training / Skills / Experience:
AAS in Engineering discipline preferred but not required.
1 to 3 years machining experience required. Formal schooling preferred. Job Shop and CNC experience a plus.
High level of initiative and strong work ethic.
Hard working, team player, “hands on” person, ready to spend most of the time on the shop floor.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
Proficient math skills.
Proficient with MS Office and other computer skills necessary to accomplish the required tasks.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
Ability to hold tight machining tolerances.
Knowledge and experience using micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges, outside diameter gauges, etc.
Understand various equipment and tooling technology.
Must operate within ERP system to order raw materials.
Ability to troubleshoot – Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Operation Monitoring – Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure equipment is working properly.
Possess a general knowledge of tooling speeds and feed rates.
Knowledge of lock out/tag out requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to inspect parts and/or tooling and read various measuring instruments.
Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 50 pounds during equipment set up/tear down.
Ability to stand for 8-10 hours per day.
Ability to frequently bend and reach while doing equipment set up/tear down and when verifying measurements.
