Applications are invited for consideration for appointment to the following position:Department: Art DepartmentBudget Title: Assistant ProfessorLocal Title: Assistant Professor of Art (Ceramics)Posting Date: October 23, 2024Classification: N/ADuties: The Art Department at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for a full-time (10-month) tenure-track position in Ceramics at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 2025.We seek an innovative and passionate artist-educator with a rich creative practice who is interested in collaborating with our vibrant community of students and internationally recognized faculty to advance ceramic practice and the future of the field. The successful candidate will have the skills to teach undergraduate ceramics courses ranging from intro level for non-art majors to advanced level and technical courses for our BFA and BSVA students, as well as graduate-level courses in our MFA program, including advising MFA Thesis students. The candidate will model both traditional and emergent ceramic practices in their courses and demonstrate rigor, empathy, and generosity in the classroom.The successful candidate will have an active studio practice of high visibility that will complement the work of existing program and department faculty. The candidate will actively support our vibrant community culture, help recruit students to our BFA and MFA programs, and will assist in connecting students with professional tools, resources, and opportunities. Candidates with varied backgrounds and strong qualifications to mentor and advise our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply.Responsibilities for tenure track faculty in the Art Department include: A 3/3 teaching load Advising and mentorship to our BSVA, BFA, Honors, and MFA students Shared management of our expansive, well-equipped ceramics studio The ability to maintain a high level of creative and professional activity alongside exceptional teaching Service to the department, school, and university including participation on departmental and university-wide committees Modeling healthy, safe, and sustainable methods in the classroomQualifications: Required: MFA or equivalent terminal degree with research focused in ceramics University-level teaching experience beyond graduate school Demonstrated evidence of sustained excellence in creative work and professional activity at the national level Demonstrated competency teaching technical ceramics courses Demonstrated evidence of expertise in a technical, theoretical, or emergent area of the field Strong communication, writing, and organizational skillsPreferred: Three (3) years full-time teaching experience Experience in service on departmental and university-wide committees Experience teaching and mentoring graduate studentsContact Information: Electronic submissions required.
