We are working with a large nonprofit with various sites in and around Brooklyn and Queens. The position will call for the person to travel to different sites throughout the week, reliable transportation is a must.
Person will work with staff at each site to ensure all the accounting procedures are in place and being followed from revenues to expenses. Person must be able to help staff with quickbooks, potentially train staff at each site when the need calls for it. Some of the tasks but not limited to the following:
Effectively plan and organize the information, tools, and techniques for the performance of assigned
administrative and financial reviews of various offices.
Execute administrative and financial review assignments in accordance with accepted professional
standards and prepares a written or digital original report with recommendations for the correction of
unsatisfactory conditions, improvements in operations, and reductions in cost.
Execute follow-up administrative and financial reviews four months after issuance of original report to
confirm recommendations have been accepted.
Prepare Financial Evaluation Reports when requested for various offices.
Assist in the training of location staff members in accounting software (quickbooks).
Assist in preparing Budget Review sheets for all offices.
Provide assistance as requested to various offices in the area of financial management and administration.
Assist in the continuous evaluation and improvement of administrative and financial review programs,
procedures, questionnaires, tests, and techniques.
Assists in audit investigations due to irregularities (officially reported or suspected).
Perform special projects as requested by the Comptroller.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Right person should have the following background/skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or relevant field (e.g., Finance, Financial Management, Business)
Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in Accounting or relevant industry
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Knowledge of non-profit accounting; financial planning
Knowledge of local, state, and federal auditing and compliance laws and regulations
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, and Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Working knowledge of QuickBooks and other relevant accounting software/technologies
Continually update the skills needed to perform the assigned responsibilities
Excellent written communication skills and interpersonal skills
Use of independent judgement to identify and correct inefficiencies in auditing practices/procedures
Ability to stay abreast of best practices and trends; evaluate and recommend improvements
Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality; committed to financial transparency
Ability to generate, analyze, and explain financial data
Ability to explain and train individuals with various levels of accounting knowledge/skillset
Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle for travel to various offices/locations.
