Outdoor After-School Program, Assistant Instructor

Tired of sitting at a desk all day? Need some fresh air? Then take a screen break and come work outside with us! We are looking for part-time, assistant instructors for a weekday outdoor after-school adventure program in Central Park. We are eagerly hoping to find exceptional and charismatic people who have at least one year of experience in leading and/or working with groups of young children, ages 5-11. Outdoor educational experience and knowledge of Central Park are a plus. Have other outdoor skills? Even better. Must be available to work between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. (the actual shift hours vary by weekday, but the average shift is approximately two hours, somewhere within that time frame) and commit to those shifts from September through at least December; preferably through the end of the school year in June. The program's content, lesson plans and all materials will be provided for you and you will start off as an assistant to an experienced staff member.

Please note: This is a PART-TIME position, approximately 2 hours per day. This could be 1-2 shifts per week or as many as 4-5. Please do not respond if you are expecting full-time work. You must be available to start as early as September 9. Anyone interested in the possibility of doing this in the South Mountain Reservation in New Jersey, please let us know.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensuring the safety of the participating children.

Enthusiastically providing, energetically presenting and excitedly carrying out the day's goal and/or activity.

Communicating encouragement to participating children and communicating respectfully with school staff and parents.

Serving as a positive adult role model.

Being accountable, including arriving on time, all the time. Lateness cannot be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal.

Hiking and being physically active outdoors, on all types of surfaces, in all types of weather, for an average of two hours/shift.

Exhibiting willingness and ability to execute program's content according to company standards.

Collaborating with other staff members to make every experience awesome.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

At least high school (or equivalent)

This is an extremely rewarding and fun job that provides great outdoor experiences for kids and instructors alike. Please note that this is a PART-TIME position; the number of shifts/week will depend on your experience and availability. In addition, to avoid any confusion, this job takes place outdoors, in Central Park, rain, snow or shine.

If you meet the criteria above, are available to start as soon as possible and would like to be considered for the position, please respond with answers to the following questions:

1. What about the description above motivated you to respond and why do you want to work as an after-school program assistant?

2. What makes you the best candidate for this position?

3. Describe what else are you doing with your time, how many shifts you would like to work per week and when exactly you are available to commit to working (weekdays only; we have no weekend availability).

4. If you have experience working with children in an outdoor setting, specific outdoor skills/experience that may be of interest, etc., please explain any of those things as well.

Please include all information, including your name, cell phone number and e-mail address, within the body of your e-mail response. NO ATTACHMENTS. Responses from those who do not follow the instructions within this post will be ignored. The top candidates will be scheduled for an interview as soon as possible, so please state your availability for this as well.
