Job DescriptionThe Office of the Queens Borough President is seeking a resourceful and highly skilled full-time Community Boards and Transportation liaison to provide support services. The assistant will be responsible for the program areas of Community Boards, Parks and Transportation The prospective staff member must be committed to seeking out new and better ways for the office to connect with, and deliver for, Queens's diverse neighborhoods, communities and constituents.In addition, the prospective staff member:

Under executive direction of the Borough President, and Director of Community Boards with great latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and action, serves as liaison for Community Boards, transportation and Parks operations; performs related work;

Establishes and assesses operations policy, priorities, and standards within the borough; makes recommendations to the Borough President;

-Represent the Borough President’s office at Community Boards meetings and Precinct Council meetings, draft memos and be the liaison for those respective boards-Assists the Director of Community boards with any Community Board related issues and tasks;-Represent the Borough President at events hosted in assigned Community Boards;

Prepares briefings and talking points for the Borough President to deliver at Parks and Transportation events;

Works with Parks Department in overseeing and coordinating programs for neighborhood park restoration, forestry and horticulture, recreation, and capital projects;

Plans, coordinates, develops short-term special projects and/or borough events to hold in the parks throughout the Borough;

Schedules and manages park cleanups throughout the Borough;

Acts as Liaison between the Borough President and Department of Transportation Commissioner;

Under direct supervision, assists higher level staff member in the preparation and conduct of transportation studies; assists in projects related to citywide traffic programs and performs related work;

Assists in street and transportation studies on conditions, problems, changes, and improvements relating to such matters as traffic safety, visibility, access, circulation, density, flow, speeds, crashes, volume and expansion, vehicle occupancy and inventory. Assists in street and transportation studies on accessibility, the use of electronic detection, control and recording equipment, pedestrian behavior studies and crossing patterns, vehicle clearance determinations and bicycle lanes;

Conducts field investigations and makes timing changes to provide safety for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic;

Analyzes, designs and modifies signal timing for new signals;

Engages, studies and investigations of traffic conditions and may recommend methods and means of reducing congestion and crashes and improving the operations of street and transportation facilities;

Performs other duties as assigned.
