The Huang Lab at NYU’s Department of Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Laboratory Associate to provide assistance in multiple ongoing research projects for investigating the DNA binding specificities of transcription factors that aim to understand development and improve stress resilience in plants.This position is for a trainee preparing for a research path. It will provide development of technical skills; supervision by senior scientists incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and possible publication of research findings during appointment period.Responsibilities include performing genetics, cell and molecular biology experiments to investigate the transcriptional regulatory networks for bZIP and SPL family of transcription factors; conducting DNA affinity purification sequencing (DAP-seq) experiments in Arabidopsis and crop species; growing plants and tissue cultures; and preparing figures and manuscripts for publication.Projects in the Huang lab uses high-throughput sequencing methods to identify genome-wide targets of transcription factors and applies machine learning techniques to build predictive models of transcription factor target specificities. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.The ideal candidate will have a BS or MS in Biology or a related field with course work in plant molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology and biostatistics. At least 2 years of research experience in a plant biology laboratory in plant care and propagation, DNA extraction, PCR, western blotting and gene cloning are required.
