DescriptionAbout the RoleJoin one of the most diverse and innovative Engineering/Architecture design teams with multiple specialties within the transportation sector. The Port Authority’s airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals and rail transportation systems are important transportation links in the region. The Architecture Design unit within the Engineering/Architecture Design Division serves a unique role within the Port Authority by providing architectural planning and design services throughout the Agency with close coordination with internal and external stakeholders including Federal, State and local transportation and regulatory agencies. The architects at the Port Authority are a close-knit team that are stewards of the infrastructure owned and managed by the Agency. They keep the region moving by focusing on our priorities such as Customer Experience, Operational Excellence, Sustainability and standards such as Global Best Practices, Collaboration and SpeedReporting to a Principal Architect, the Senior Architect will be responsible for producing architectural design for capital, operating and major redevelopment programs. Work can vary from a state of good repair project for a single building element to a brand-new transit hub at any of the Authority’s facilities.Responsibilities

Preparation of planning (Pre-Stage I), preliminary design (Stage I), design development (Stage II) and contract documents (Stage III), and providing architecture design services during Construction including shop drawing review, responding to Request for Information and post award design changes (Stage IV), standards review and cost estimating for in-house designs.

Produce architectural deliverables, coordinate and/or collaborate with supervisors, otherteam members and other internal and external stakeholders, including consultants,as required.

Under the guidance and review of the supervisor, prepare technical solutions and documents for unusual or complex problems.

Based on the assignment, act as a subject matter expert and perform technical audits and as a Project Architect, as required.

Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in architectural design approach and project planning exercises.

Perform site inspections and condition assessments at the Agency’s facilities.

Prepare RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional engineering/architecture services to be performed by a consultant.

Perform technical audit of consultant-led engineering studies, designs and contract documents for construction projects.

Minimum Qualifications

A professional bachelor’s degree from an architectural program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).

A minimum of ten (10) years of architecture experience in all phases of design.

A design portfolio and/or work samples must be submitted with the application.

Valid driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications

Registered Architect license in either the states of New York or New Jersey or an interest in attaining licensure.

Demonstrated problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and function in a team environment.

Superior oral communication, written communication, and presentation skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, the AutoCAD Architectural Desktop and Revit in its most recent release.

Experience in Sketch-Up, Rhino, and other graphic software.

Familiarity with sustainable design issues and LEED is highly desirable.
