The laboratory of Dr. Lorraine Symington in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a Staff Associate I to support investigations into on the mechanisms of DNA damage repair and genome integrity. The Staff Associate will perform research on the mechanisms of DNA damage repair and genome integrity. Specifically, he/she/they will investigate the mechanism by which replication-coupled nucleosome assembly facilitates the repair of collapsed replication forks. The applicant must have experience in routine yeast molecular methods, including cell transformation, genomic DNA extraction, PCR genotyping, genetic crosses, and Southern blot hybridization.Position Breakdown:Functional Knowledge (10%): Knowledge of the research subject and scientific methods by analysis of published papers and attendance at seminarsProblem-Solving (15%): Utilizes strong analytical skills to troubleshoot experimental procedures.Decision Making/Autonomy (15%): Works within guidelines to carry out assigned duties in the design and conduct of specific experiments, the adaptation of relevant technology, and the analysis of data.Technical Expertise (50%): Ability to perform routine yeast molecular methods, including cell transformation, genomic DNA extraction, PCR genotyping, genetic crosses, and Southern blot hybridizationCommunication Skills (10%): Presents data at lab meetings and conferences and participates in manuscript preparation.Leadership: No supervisory responsibilities.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related STEM field.Other RequirementsKnowledge of basic molecular biology skills such as primer design and cloning, and yeast genetic methods including cellular transformation, genomic DNA isolation, genomic blots, genetic crosses, and PCR genotyping.Preferred Requirements4 years of experience preferred Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / VeteranPay Transparency DisclosureThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
