Gage & Tollner, the landmarked oyster and chop house in Downtown Brooklyn, originally opened in 1879, and re-opened under current ownership in 2021. Since then, it has become again the “very famous restaurant in Brooklyn,” a leader in New York City’s legendary culinary scene.
Warm, professional service has been the hallmark of Gage & Tollner for 140 years. Historically, the restaurant was known for the longevity of its waitstaff, their years of service marked by the gold insignia they wore on their uniform jackets. Long after guests forgot exactly what they had to eat, they would remember the dignified but friendly hospitality of our servers.
We are seeking an individual for the role of host and reservationist, this individual would split their week working some host shifts on the floor during dinner service, and some reservationist shifts in the office.
Host Responsibilities:
Greet and assist guests to ensure a great experience from the start
Maintain status updates to assist Maitre d'
Keep coat check organized, when applicable
Assist with table resets, and communicate table resets to set of dining room team as neccessary
Maintain waitlist for walk-ins at Gage & Tollner and Sunken Harbor Club
Work with Resy reservation systems
Answer phones professionally and answer guest inquiries
Reservationist Duties:
Book reservations on the Resy app for guests calling in
Answer phones in a courteous and efficient manner
Arrange reservations in Resy to optimize covers
Monitor emails regarding reservations and large parties
Coordinate prefix dinners with guests
Create and print menus for prefix dinners
Manage gift card creation using BentoBox and Toast
Ideal Qualities:
Desire to strive for excellence and with a dynamic team
Effective and timely communication
Experience with Resy, Toast and Slack is preferred, but not required
Attention to detail with the goal of always elevating the guest experience
Ability to work and think quickly
