General Manager -

Happy Medium exists to help people experience art in a fun, low stakes way. The Front of the House plays a critical role in welcoming our guests and creating remarkable experiences; (remarkable is defined here as: "worthy of being or likely to be noticed especially as being uncommon or extraordinary." This is not lip service. If our Front of the House team can't reliably make people feel special in a visceral way, we will fail). Beginning with the presentation of ourselves and our spaces, to how we intentionally drive service with each guest, to the way we handle lost and found items or make a guest recovery, we have an incredible number of opportunities to execute with unreasonable hospitality.

The General Manager of Happy Medium (Market Street and Franklin Street) will lead and direct the brand’s service, hiring, training, and feedback standards across the Front of the House. The way we plan and the way we practice will determine the way we perform - by the time we’re in the middle of service, the experience is already determined. To the extent we plan perfectly, we can execute (near) perfectly. We’re always on a mission to set the standards for what it means to be a creative hospitality group at the highest level. We aspire to hire and retain the best people and our way of doing things should attract them to us.

General Manager will:

Implement systems & procedures, documentation, and dissemination of key FOH processes including but not limited to:

- Uphold standards & procedures set by senior leadership team at both Manhattan and Greenpoint locations

- Direct service & work throughout bulk of service hours including nights and holidays alternating between locations

- Training, feedback, verbal & written coaching, team development

- Approve scheduling by Assistant Managers

- Lead interviewing, hiring & onboarding FOH team

- Create systems to lead team through upselling & new product coaching

- Submit team hours for payroll approval

- Report scheduled vs. actual hours for each building

- Send weekly team updates

- Submit cash & tip logs weekly

- Submit reservation report & service notes daily

- Main POC for entire building throughout hours of service

Successful Candidates Will:

- Solution oriented & maintain high quality standards

- Curious about why things are the way they are

- Comfortable with constant change

- Enjoy iterative approaches

- Ability to move quickly while remaining detail oriented

Other Details:

-This is a full-time position at $75k

-Position includes health insurance, paid time off, and Happy Medium perks

-Position entails working weekends, nights and holidays

-3+ years of hospitality experience required

-Previous leadership experience preferred

Happy Medium exists to create and curate the best supplies, content and events for casual artists. There’s a lot of stuff there for kids and capital “A” Artists, but there isn’t much for those that fall somewhere in between. We are on a mission to fill the gap.
