Artist-run non-profit exhibition space located in downtown Manhattan is looking for an intern to assist in the day-to-day activities of the gallery which include organizing exhibitions/benefits, working on brochures and catalogs (Photoshop/InDesign), grant applications, updating the website, social media, etc. The gallery is focused on producing critical contemporary art exhibitions providing social and historical contexts for the work of both well known and lesser known artists.
As a small non-profit, we are looking for a person who is committed to maintaining the highest possible standards allowable within our limited budget, but who might also prefer to work and learn in an environment that does not subscribe to business-as-usual approach to culture. Interns are exposed to educational, practical, and cultural experiences in the running of a contemporary non-profit exhibition space in the Chinatown/LES neighborhood and are actively and meaningfully engaged in the activities of the gallery. Lunch / coffee provided. The gallery is open Thursday - Sunday 1-6 pm and the position is for two (5 - 6 hour) days a week with some extra days during exhibition installation. Please send an email describing your interest and relevant experience with the subject line - non-profit gallery internship. Due to staff limitations we apologize in advance for not responding to all inquiries.
