Temple Israel of the City of New York, a vibrant and welcoming Reform congregation on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, seeks a warm, organized, and professional Administrative Assistant/Receptionist to join our front office team.
About the Role
The Administrative Assistant/Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for members, visitors, and guests. This position supports the daily operations of the synagogue, provides administrative assistance to clergy and senior staff, and helps ensure a smooth and friendly front-desk experience.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and assist members, visitors, and callers with warmth and professionalism
Answer phones, manage messages, and route inquiries appropriately
Maintain general email inboxes and respond to routine requests
Assures that incoming and outgoing mail, and office communications are coordinated
Assist with membership data entry, event RSVPs, and calendar management
Provide light administrative support to clergy and staff as needed
Qualifications
Prior experience in an administrative or reception area, preferably in a nonprofit or congregational setting
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — both written and verbal
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with ShulCloud databases a plus
Professional, dependable, and capable of maintaining confidentiality
Friendly demeanor and a genuine interest in supporting a caring Jewish community
Schedule & Compensation
Full-time, on-site position (Monday–Friday, occasional evening or weekend hours for special events, (Will need to be available to occasionally work on Shabbat and Jewish Holidays)
