Chambers Street Wines is an award winning fine wine retailer located right in the heart of New York City and has enjoyed many awards and “Top Wine Stores” lists, and has become a destination retailer for fans of naturally made wines from artisanal small producers. We are looking for an experienced, self-starting, and trustworthy person to build our private client sales and oversee our Burgundy buying. The position is salaried with commission, a full competitive benefits package, and is commensurate with experience and fit.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Wine Specialist and Buyer is a subject-matter-expert in all things wine and spirits and works with customers in a number of capacities to grow sales and foster deeper relationships. In addition, they are expected to oversee distributor and importer relationships focusing on Burgundy buying. This position reports to the CEO. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Oversee special requests & custom orders
Manage and develop relationships with customers
Collaborate with Partners & Senior staff to develop a sales strategy for incoming fine & rare wines, allocations, and other direct sales opportunities
Work directly with distributor sales reps to taste and purchase wines – with a focus on Burgundy
Create and publish e-mail and social media offers
Analyze and utilize sales, product, and customer data on an ad hoc basis
Work in-store 3-4 days per week and remotely the remainder of the work week
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate possesses the following skills, abilities, and qualifications:
5+ years in the wine industry, prior high-end retail sales experience is a plus
Knowledge of the distributor/wholesale landscape in NY
Comfort and knowledge of collectible & older wines and spirits
Current client/customer relationships is a plus
An innate balance of warmth, grace, and professionalism
Ability to carry up to 40 lbs up and down a flight of stairs
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
Valid US Passport or equivalent to allow for global travel
Experience with the following software: MS Office Suite, Point-of-Sale systems, Shopify, Instagram
