We are a visual display company looking to hire a Prepress Print Assistant. This position requires the candidate to support the prepress and production teams in preparing client files for the printing process. This role is entry-level and combines technical computer skills with hands-on production tasks, ensuring quality control and smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
The primary duties include:
File Preparation: Performing initial checks on digital files (preflighting) for completeness and potential problems (e.g., correct color profiles, resolution, fonts, and bleeds).
Proofing and Quality Control: Generating proofs (digital or physical samples) for internal review and client approval and conducting thorough quality checks during and after production.
Image and Text Manipulation: Using graphic design software to format, correct, and adjust images and text to meet print specifications.
Imposition and Layout: Assisting with arranging multiple pages or designs on a single press sheet to optimize printing and finishing efficiency.
Vinyl Application – In house or on Site: must have vinyl installation experience, this is essential. A substantial part of the position requires vinyl application in small and large formats at various locations.
Communication: Collaborating with the prepress supervisor to resolve technical issues and clarify job specifications.
Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance and cleaning of pre-press and printing equipment, such as computers, scanners, and digital presses.
General Production Support: Assisting with other print shop duties, such as cutting, folding, and managing supplies and inventory, as needed.
Installation: Must be a team player, flexibility to assist with preparing fixtures for installation as well as install on site with team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess a mix of technical and soft skills:
Technical Proficiency: 3+ years’ experience in printing industry. General knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro) is a must. Familiarity with prepress software like Enfocus Pitstop, AutoCAD & Rhino are a huge plus and RIP software is beneficial.
Attention to Detail: A high level of accuracy and a keen eye for detail and colors are essential to catch errors before printing and avoid costly reprints.
Problem-Solving Abilities: The ability to troubleshoot file compatibility issues and technical problems in a fast-paced environment and maintain a positive working attitude.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and clients.
Physical Stamina: The role may require being on your feet for extended periods and occasionally lifting materials (up to 30-50 pounds).
Personal Traits: excels at multi-tasking, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, can manage short lead times, is self-motivated and is a team player.
A high school diploma or equivalent is common, with an associate's degree or vocational training in graphic arts or printing technology often preferred.
