We are a visual display company looking to hire a Prepress Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our prepress department. You will be required to ensure digital files are accurately prepared for printing while supervising staff, optimizing workflows, and maintaining quality standards. You will be a critical link between our production/design/workshop teams to guarantee the efficient and high-quality production of printed materials.
Key Responsibilities
Workflow Management: Coordinate and schedule the daily activities of the prepress team, prioritize jobs, and establish methods to meet production deadlines.
Quality Control & File Preparation: Ensure all incoming electronic files are "print-ready," checking for accuracy in color, resolution, layout, and formatting (e.g., proper bleed, trapping, and imposition).
Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues related to digital files, software, or equipment, collaborating with designers and press operators as needed.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor prepress staff, while maintaining a positive working attitude.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other departments ( project management & production, etc.)
Equipment & Inventory Management: Oversee the maintenance and repair of prepress equipment (e.g., computers, proofing devices, plate makers) and manage the inventory of supplies like plates and consumables.
Process Improvement: Implement and optimize standard operating procedures, introduce new technologies or automation tools, and lead initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: Must have 5+ years of experience in prepress operations, with prior leadership or supervisory experience. Vinyl Application in house and on Site is a must.
Technical Proficiency: Expertise in industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), imposition software, and digital workflow systems. knowledge of CMYK, RGB, and Spot colors. AutoCaD & Rhino are a huge plus. Must understand digital, and large format printing and an excellent eye for color.
Printing Knowledge: Thorough understanding of various printing methods (offset, digital, flexographic, etc.), color management protocols, and quality control standards.
Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills are essential for managing teams and coordinating complex projects under pressure. Be able to multitask and while working in a fast paced environment. Work well with short lead times. Must have a flexible schedule as hours may vary. Some late night and weekend work may be required. This is not a 9-5 position.
Education: A high school diploma is a minimum requirement, while a technical or vocational degree in graphic arts, print technology, or a related field is often preferred.
