Description Summary:The purpose of this position is to provide coverage for Immediate Evaluation at both VBMC and NDH facilities. Also to provide primary slide screening of non-gyn and gyn cytology cases for our pathologists.Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York.Purpose:Responsible for preparing and screening all cytologic specimens and interpreting findings under the direction of a pathologist. This position will also assist in performing adequacy assessments on FNA cases at our Northern Dutchess Hospital locationEssential Responsibilities:
Process cytologic specimens and render interpretation under current State and Federal guidelines.
Maintain files and records according to guidelines of regulations. File slides according to department protocol and ensure that smears are kept on file for as long as needed for patient care purposes and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Maintain quality assurance program and all appropriate documentation.
Maintain current policy and procedure manuals and ensure that all logs are current.
Log the number of smears screened per day and maintain workload limits within the standards set by the regulatory agencies.
Render assistance to the Pathologist or Radiologist in the collection of needle biopsies when necessary including performing adequacy assessment.
Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Comply with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, asbestos, and other hazardous substances.

Minimum one-year experience with non-gyn cytology. Three years’ experience preferred.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:·Knowledge MicrosoftLicense, Registration, or Certification Requirement·Current New York State Cytotechnologist License. Must meet ASCP requirements for Cytotechnologist.Responsibilities:

Other tasks-20% (maintaining cytology statistics/workloads, stains changes on the microscope carts, etc.)
