Act 4 Books seeks a responsible, creative, detail-oriented reader, gamer and people person to help launch our Community Supported Bookstore. The right candidate for this part-time position likes learning, enjoys helping and wants to ensure the best experience for every store visitor. Opportunities for growth for motivated candidates.
Position: Part-time (15-35 hours/week), including some night and weekend hours. Hours may vary seasonally.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Store Operation and Care
Follow opening and/or closing procedures for all parts of the store (café, books and other)
Greet customers.
Engage every customer in conversation.
Help customers find a new book, game or special gift. This may include making book suggestions, pointing out shelf-talkers, demonstrating games, creating a gift card or offering to place an order.
Successfully operate the point-of-sale system to gather new customer information, to transact sales, to perform returns or exchanges and to take special orders.
Accurately receive and label inventory, shelve new merchandise, create displays, organize books and other merchandise.
Make hot and cold beverages and serve food to customers.
Keep the store clean, safe, and comfortable for customers and staff. Dust, sweep, mop, clean bathrooms and break room, wipe down tables and café area, wash dishes, take out trash and recycling.
Participate in store marketing and promotion, including newsletter contributions, reviews, website and social media updates and event participation.
Track books that need to be returned and prepare returns.
Make store inventory suggestions based on your knowledge and your customer interactions.
List store inventory in on-line auction sites. Fulfil auction results.
Participate in off-site events.
Participate in an annual store inventory.
Skills and Qualities
MS Office and Google docs familiarity.
Comfortable with technology and able to learn Bookmanager point of sale system.
Motivated self-starter able to work with minimal supervision after training.
Creative problem-solver, able to think on your feet.
Excellent organizer with precise detail awareness.
Skilled written and verbal communicator. - with customers, managers and team members.
Prioritizer and time manager.
Enthusiastic reader, gamer and people person.
You will regularly be required to sit and stand, to push and pull with force, to climb and stoop, to reach with hands and arms, to be on your feet for hours at a time. You may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
You should have a general awareness of the publishing industry, research skills, and the perseverance to find a book even when the customer has little information.
You should be able to accept coaching and feedback from others.
