POSITION SUMMARY:Is responsible, in consultation with the Manager for the oversight and coordination of direct American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services to deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) as assigned throughout the University to patients, their families and others.SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:None.MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Telephone, video conference equipment, pager and standard office equipment including but not limited to personal computer, copy and fax machines.TYPICAL DUTIES:

Schedules appointments for self and interpreting staff to provide interpreting services to deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) patients, their families and others.

Schedules on-call interpreter staff to ensure coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Interviews and make recommendations for hire.

Trains, supervises and evaluates ASL interpreter staff

Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of post-high school education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Membership with The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and adherence to tenets within the RID Interpreter Code of Professional Conduct required.

Minimum of two years general interpreting in a health care setting is required.

RID, Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI), or similar National Certification preferred.
