Req Number 136824Job DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, keeps the patient safe from harm.Job Responsibility1.Observes the patient and maintains a safe environment, and as delegated by the nurse. Provides patient supervision and communicates changes in patient condition to the nurse.2.Documents accurately on Constant Observation flow sheet. Interacts with patients, visitors and staff to support patient's specific needs related to age, culture, spiritual, physical and mental challenges.3.Accompanies the patient for any clinical tests or procedures off the unit. Remains within an arm's length distance of the patient unless otherwise directed by the person performing the test or procedure.4.May be assigned to monitor multiple patients in the same room or via video monitoring. Positions him/herself to maintain an unobstructed view of multiple patients. Additional staff must be provided if patient activity (e.g., patient ambulating in the hall, patient in the restroom or patient transported off the unit) prevents the observer from simultaneously monitoring multiple patients.5.Demonstrated the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the appropriate observation to the patient population requiring video monitoring.6.Provides for patient safety by removing potentially harmful objects or contraband from patient and environment (e.g., sharp objects, glass items, belts, ties, hairdryer, purse, cosmetics, mirrors, electric razors).7.The activities delegated to the observer are determined by the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and are in accordance with the requirements of the patient care unit.8.Performs related duties, as required.ADA Essential FunctionsJob Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

Ability to communicate effectively, required.

Ability to restrain patients as required.
