Senior Accountant ILocation:White Plains, USSummaryThe Senior Accountant will work in our Accounting Operations group and will perform accounting work at NYPA relating to the compilation and analysis of financial data, leading to the preparation of monthly reports for the organization.The Senior Accountant will support the monthly close, reconciliations, variance analysis and work cross functionally within the Controller’s organization. They will operate within SAP, Excel and other various systems, and will be tasked with process improvements in our continuous improvement environment encompassing systems & processes.They will maintain accounting records and prepare financial statements in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and provisions of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), reporting into Senior Manager Accounting Operations.#LI-JP1Responsibilities

Monthly preparation and posting of Market Revenues and related Cost of Sales data based on NYISO data received from Settlements group.

Prepare monthly gross margin variance analysis and net generation volume reports.

Update assigned account analysis in reconciliation system.

Compile and prepare accounting analyses and statements. Use available tools to query systems for financial information (financial modules of SAP system).

Prepare and input recurring and non-recurring journal entries.

Assist with processing monthly fuel transactions, including preparing summary report and variance analysis.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports related to areas of responsibility.

Compile data for and prepare regularly scheduled and special accounting reports. Keep complete and accurate account analyses and supporting work papers.

Prepares schedules for both internal and external auditors for areas of responsibility.

Independently or jointly conduct special reviews, prepare analysis, and provide recommendations to management to streamline practices and procedures.

Assist in the preparation of financial statements and relative analyses, including the preparation of financial statement notes for the mid-year financial reporting and the annual report.

Responsible for ensuring costs are classified in accordance with GAAP, GASB, and FERC.

Support the preparation of the Annual Revenue Requirement / Cost-of-Service data.

Prepare all requested ad hoc financial analysis requested by management, including providing assistance to Fixed Asset Group to record and reconcile asset information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and GASB Accounting; general ledger structure and financial reporting and Microsoft Office Suite and SAP/other ERP platforms.

Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Knowledge of utility and statutory accounting is preferred.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in multiple disciplines of Accounting including Financial Reporting/ Internal Controls.

Experience in Accounting within the electric utility industry preferred.
