In Field Pipe Welder

Candidate will be responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. He/she will also be expected to assist the jobsite team with whatever duties necessary to complete the project on time and as requested by the customer.

Skills and Expectations

the ability to tig, stick, and mig in field process piping welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, sanitary stainless, and other piping mediums at various thicknesses

The ability to weld socket weld fittings, buttweld fittings, sanitary fittings, solder, etc

Position the weld set up, fit the piping and perform welds independently

The ability to perform a 2" weld on schedule 40 pipe in 30 minutes and a 4" weld on schedule 40 pipe in an hour

The knowledge of proper welding preperation; cutting, beveling, cleaning, gapping, purging, etc

Must also be capable of metal fabrication such as platforms, specialty guards, bollards, handrails, stairs, etc

Must be capable of lifting 75lbs frequently during the day

Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel and squat, work at heights and climb ladders throughout the day for extended periods of time

Requires working in very hot (above 100F) or very cold (below 10F) temperatures and the ability to wear all required safety PPE in these conditions.

Preferably have experience with either high pressure pipe, steam line or gas line, or process pipe welding

Analyzes all welds to ensure they are free of porosity and discontinuities

Assist the jobsite team with load rigging, torch cutting, leveling, or other duties required to finish each project

The ability to operate grinder and wire wheel

The ability to use a portaband, pipe machine, welding machines, lifts, and other tools/equipment

Work with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other contractors, to execute the project

Understand and adhere to all OSHA and customer required safety regulations

Keep accurate notes, records, sketches, daily reports, and field books to describe and verify the planned work

Demonstrate excellent people skills and is able to build trust, be a good teacher, and display good communication.

Fills out time sheets, incident/accident reports and Change Order forms properly

Keep company issued truck, tools, and equipment serviced and clean.

All other duties as needed and assigned by management

Preferred, but not required

Read and understand contract drawings, specifications, and submittals

Inform the Project Manager and customer of drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, scheduling issues, and quality control issues

clean driving record - no DUI's within six years. No more than three speeding tickets in four years.

Experience

5 year's experience as an in field pipe welding

a good understanding of metal fabrication such as platforms, specialty guards, bollards, handrails, stairs, etc

a good understanding of mechanical maintenance work such as rack installation, steam trap maintenance, lube system maintenance, etc

a good understanding of basic millwright work such as installing pumps, setting tanks, moving equipment, etc

Requirements

Three work history references

Must be able to pass a weld test pre-employment or within first week of employment (Tested on 4" schedule 40 steel stick 60/10 root, 70/18 cap)

Government issued ID (state driver's license or ID card)

Clean background

Clean drug test

Clean safety record

The ability to communicate via cell phone, text, email, and/or fax

The ability to be reached by phone, especially during working hours

All employees must have required PPE which includes steel toe work boots, a hard hat, and safety glasses according to OSHA and ANSI standards.

Job type: Full time

Pay rate: starts at $30+/hr or more depending upon experience, certifications, and work references

Travel: Most jobs are primarily within 60-80 miles of Charlotte during the business day, with occasional out of state and overnight travel.

Structural welders and apprentice welders need not apply.
