In Field Pipe Fitter

This person will be responsible for laying out pipe, threading pipe, and getting various types of pipe ready to be welded on in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. He/she will also need knowledge and experience in the fabrication of metal structures/products in accordance with customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. He/she will also be expected to assist the jobsite team with whatever duties necessary to complete the project on time and as requested by the customer.

Skills and Expectations

Lay out pipe systems, hanger, and equipment from drawings and job specifications

Install all mechanical piping systems and connect piping to equipment

Experience in assembling and installing a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including SS, CS, copper, propress, and pvc.

Skilled in prepping and connecting pipes, using threaded, welded, grooved, soldered, brazed, fused, solvent welded joints, and pressed piping

Ability to secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers, using hand tools and power tools

Read and understand Isometric Drawings

Ability to Layout, miter fittings and fabrication of Branch Saddles

Assist jobsite team members in assembly, installation, painting, and other tasks required for each project

Operate grinder and wire wheel, portaband, threading machine, and other power tools

Perform load rigging, torch cutting, and leveling with the use of measurement tools

a good understanding of metal fabrication such as platforms, specialty guards, bollards, handrails, stairs, etc

a good understanding of basic millwright work such as installing pumps, setting tanks, moving equipment, etc

Work with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other contractors, to execute the project

Understand and adhere to all OSHA and customer required safety regulations

Keep accurate notes, and possibly daily reports to assist the foreman and PM with their communications with the customer.

Demonstrate good people skills and is able to build trust, be a good teacher, and display good communication.

Keep company issued truck, tools, and equipment serviced and clean

All other duties as needed and assigned by management

Physical Requirements

The ability to lift objects weighing over 40 lbs

The ability to walk comfortably throughout the day

The ability to work without taking opioid pain killers, and/or illegal drugs

The ability to work in non comfort controlled environments

The ability to work in stressful environments

The ability to perform a 10 hour work day

Experience

3 year's experience as an in field pipe fitter

Requirements

Two work history references

Government issued ID (state driver’s license or ID card)

Clean background

Clean drug test

Clean safety record

The ability to communicate via cell phone, text, email, and/or fax

The ability to get to work on a daily basis

All employees must have required PPE which includes steel toe work boots, a hard hat, and safety glasses according to OSHA and ANSI standards.

Job type: Full time

Pay rate: $28/hr or more depending upon experience, certifications, and work references

Travel: Most jobs are primarily within 60-80 miles of Charlotte during the business day, with occasional out of state and overnight travel. Per diem and travel time will only apply once the jobsite is over 90 miles from the SPPI office, or otherwise negotiated with the customer.
