Who needs care: I am a nurse helping a vulnerable patient of mine with spastic cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and a rare neurological disorder. He needs help getting up in the morning & some evenings. Must be willing to do light housekeeping & laundry. Patient is an independent adult with normal intelligence. However, he has a lot of difficulty in the mornings getting up and moving.
Care needed: Must be very caring. This patient was badly hurt by a former caregiver. Patient has a rare disorder & needs a caregiver open to providing responsive childcare to an adult. Must be kind, loving, & willing to connect to patient. He uses an electric wheelchair and has lots of pain and spasms because of his cerebral palsy. Spasms can be controlled through diet and medication. Because of pain and spasms he has a hard time holding things. He needs to be physically supported and fed until his spasms slow down.
Services needed: He needs help changing his diaper, bathing, dressing, feeding, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping and some limited mobility assistance. There is no lifting. His care involves substantial physical support until his spasticity decreases.
Days and hours needed: Assistance needed from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m 2-3 days per week. Days are flexible and can be arranged around caregiver schedule. MUST be available in morning by 8 a.m. May include some evenings.
Pay: $15-$30 per hour depending on experience, background and interview. Payment is made electronically to caregiver by patient why caregiver present to confirm payment is made.
Requirements: Applicants must be able to follow written instructions, do an in person interview, and complete a questionnaire. Training, information and support is provided by a nurse. This is NOT a difficult job or person to work with. It does require caregiver compassion and care for someone in a lot of pain.
