Your primary duties will include:

Filing slides and paperwork according to case type

Maintains onsite items as well as those sent offsite for long-term storage.

Handles cases sent to and from Cleveland Clinic for secondary consultation.

Receives and accessions specimens into the LIS.

Retrieves, sorts, tracks and delivers specimens.

Verifies accurate documentation relative to specimen processing.

Accepts or rejects specimens according to established standards and performs specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems.

Prepares specimens for analysis.

Performs manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting, and routine maintenance.

Maintains patient, specimen and tracking data using laboratory computer system, tracking and software/devices.

Communicates and documents essential information.

Performs preventive maintenance and record keeping procedures.

Performs basic clerical functions and places work orders.

Other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma/GED required.

Associate's degree preferred (preferably in Science)

Associate's degree (or equivalent credit hours) will substitute for up to one year of experience.

Certifications:

None required.

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Requires strong organizational and time management skills.

Work Experience:

One year of lab experience is required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.

Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.

Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.

Handles and transports biohazardous materials and potential carcinogens.

Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.

Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

The animal husbandry technician is responsible for the day-to-day care of research animals according to established protocols and in compliance with applicable regulations. This position will maintain the health and well-being of research animals and monitor animals to identify health-related problems, dietary needs, overcrowding and cage conditions. The husbandry technician is primarily responsible for identifying and documenting conditions that adversely affect the health of the animals. This documentation provides researchers and veterinary personnel with critical information to ensure that research progresses without interruptions caused by disease, damaged equipment and overcrowded conditions. The husbandry technician also has the primary responsibility of administering special diets, assuring animals have adequate water and food and administering any other special needs. Animal Resource Center staff members are responsible for maintaining the health and well-being of the university\'s research animals; and therefore, play a vital role in supporting the School of Medicine\'s research efforts. Animal husbandry technicians and all other Animal Resource Center staff must enjoy working with and caring for animals and appreciate the value of animals in research.
