DESCRIPTIONJob Summary:As the 48V Sub-System Architect, you will have overall responsibility for the 48V sub-system architecture. You will interface with the overall engine system integrator to define high-level requirements for the 48V subsystem. This role involves defining and managing 48V sub-system (generation & heating) level requirements and working closely with component designers to manage component-level requirements. You will own the development and completion of 48V system level iDFMEA and DVP&R. Additionally, you will adopt ownership of the 48V ESW from R&T once complete, including MGU, Smart Alternator, and IPD. You will define requirements for OEM-owned mechanical components such as cables, connectors, wiring schematics, and cable routing/fixation, as well as own requirements for engine customer-owned software/controls interfaces, including performance, controls, diagnostics, and datalink interfaces. Supporting the R&T-owned 48V system roadmap development is also a key responsibility. You will distill system-level EMI/EMC requirements into component-level requirements and collaborate across the engine team and 48V components teams to resolve torsional vibration concerns and interactions between mechanical and electrical systems. In this role you will make an impact in the following ways:
Investigate electronic application and systems problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, and document results.
Create, manage, improve, and apply electronic application and systems development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting.
Apply tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance.
Obtain input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, supplier partners, and other stakeholders to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.
Make decisions in the areas of electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated subsystems and feature classes of electronic subsystems.
Review the work of less-experienced developers/testers to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design.
Use systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of electronic and electrical systems designs, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated builds and management of cross-BU integration and coordination.
Deliver independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge.
Coach and develop the next generation of technical experts.
Provide problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
Lead the development and improvement of work processes and systems across functions within a global business unit or manage improvement across business units.
Coordinate and direct the work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
Operate as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
Coach and mentor other engineers, project managers, and cross-functional team members.
May include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.
RESPONSIBILITIESTo be successful in this role you will need the following:Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems:
Specifies electronic hardware and interconnections that measure and control systems.
Applies electronic hardware and interconnections in Cummins’ products.
Machine Integration and Optimization:
Combines various parts or sub-systems into a whole to achieve the output most desired by the customer.
Applies Cummins’ installation requirements using standard tools, processes, and best practices to ensure optimization of performance, reliability, cost, and quality.
Analyzes technical issues using proven problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques for rapid resolution.
Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis:
Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product’s function relative to its system, sub-system, and/or component level requirements.
Product Problem Solving:
Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer.
Determines the assignable cause and implements robust, data-based solutions.
Identifies systemic root causes and recommends actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
System Requirements Engineering:
Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed.
Establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation, and negotiation.
Tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
Assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources.
Creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
Systems Thinking:
Defines the system of interest by drawing boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and its lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope, and deliverables.
Analyzes linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest using appropriate methods, models, and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior, and devise modifications to produce the desired effects.
Builds Networks:
Effectively builds formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization.
Communicates Effectively:
Develops and delivers multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
Cultivates Innovation:
