GENERAL SUMMARY:
Avery Dennison is seeking a R&D Technician II/Analyst to join the Materials Group North America Innovation Center in Mentor, Ohio. This position will be in the Materials Science and Analytical group which is responsible for developing, optimizing and characterizing materials technologies worldwide. In this role, the successful candidate will conduct product performance testing and characterization as well as possess expertise in a testing area or material component to help establish test methods and provide analysis for project teams in a leading company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform routine analytical tests including but not limited to physical property measurements in the Chromatography/Spectroscopy group and product performance testing, prototyping, etc. under the supervision of senior technical staff members.
· Ability to interface and collaborate with technical teams to help perform testing and provide results for further analysis.
· Proactively develop and update test methods.
· Forecast promise date completion with all assigned requests, managing time to juggle multiple requests while ensuring on time completion.
· Creating sample materials according to our standard procedure.
· Conducting requested tests according to our standard procedure with high accuracy.
· Create and maintain technical documentation and reporting data to the customer/colleague. Utilize ELN/LIMS system and carefully curate reports and help with the cogent population of databases.
· Able to handle multiple work streams concurrently.
· Cooperation with the different colleagues and functions within all Avery divisions and external parties (i.e. Marketing, other areas of R&D, Suppliers/Customers).
· Ensuring that all actions comply with our safety and quality procedures.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer/Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related degree preferred.
Minimum 1-2 year of lab experience.
Exceptional candidates with 5-10 years experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
Prior experience with Chromatography and Spectroscopy instrumentation is a plus.
Must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills coupled with creativity, versatility and analytical thinking in designing experiments to solve technical problems.
Must possess excellent hands-on experimentation skills including wet-lab skills. Prior experience in adhesives or plastics industries is an advantage.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to both summarize critical results and to write in-depth technical reports. Prior experience with LIMS/ELN software and database is a plus.
Fast learner, meticulous attention to detail and scientific curiosity.
Proficient computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft- and other software).
Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Well-organized and with a service oriented attitude.
Can-do attitude: skilled in executing experiments and trials per instruction; demonstrated scientific acumen and strategic thinking in obtaining results
Skilled in developing documentation of experimental results and interpretations.
Skilled in making moderately complex mathematical computations.
Proven experience in completing moderately complex technical assignments without immediate supervision; analyzing moderately complex data and preparing effective reports and recommendations.
Skilled in interfacing effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.
Solid scientific and engineering knowledge and experience in specific fields.
Capable of working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
