Develop skills with assistance from Corrections Security Caseworker Careers (CSCC) using team mentoring, consultation, participating in peer learning opportunities and skills development sessions.Employees in the Corrections Security Caseworker Career job classification provide peer reviews and ongoing mentoring, guidance, and consult to less experienced staff.This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.Minimum QualificationsTo be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Two (2) years of experience with clients from a diverse background in the fields of corrections, social work, social services, education, chemical dependency, mental health, residential treatment, or related field.

To qualify for the Corrections Security Caseworker Career:

Be a current employee as a Corrections Security Caseworker Career or Corrections Agent Career; OR

Have previous experience as a Corrections Security Caseworker Career with permanent or probationary status and separation from the class in good standing.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be further assessed on the following:

Human relations and conflict management skills sufficient to maintain effective working relationships and collaboration with incarcerated individuals, co-workers, government officials, social service providers, families, and other stakeholders.

Oral and written communication skills sufficient to prepare and present reports, explain and describe the applicability of complex policy and statute to stakeholders, and make recommendations to stakeholders.

Organizational skills sufficient to manage a caseload, prioritize a wide variety of issues, and manage many crucial details in a constantly changing legal and procedural environment.

Skills in using computer database and software programs sufficient to collect and enter data in case records.

Knowledge of correctional evidence-based practices (EBP) such as cognitive-behavioral programming, risk and needs assessments, motivational interviewing, and person-centered principles.

Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

Completion of a degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Education, Law, Law Enforcement, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a Human Services related field with an emphasis in corrections/criminal justice.

Knowledge of case planning and applying intervention techniques based on research-based principles for long standing client behavior change.

Experience working in a correctional setting.

Training and experience in applying risk/need/responsivity principles.

Training and experience applying motivational techniques and core correctional practices.

Second language skills in a language that is significantly represented in the offender population.

Experience working with the Minnesota Department of Corrections as a Corrections Agent or Corrections Security Caseworker, or with another jurisdiction as a Probation Officer or Case Manager. Note: Experience may include Internships, practicums, and/or paid work experience, including work out of class assignments.
