Green Spring Farms manages over 5,000 acres of vineyards, seed, vegetables, and peppermint on farms located south of Corvallis and south of Monmouth. We have an immediate opening for an experience Farm Mechanic.
This position will normally work Monday-Saturday up to 10 hours/day, 60 hours/week during the spring, summer, and fall months. Additional overtime may be required during times of peak activity to support harvest machinery and seed processing equipment. During the winter months the normal work week is often Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.
Brief Description
This individual is a motivated self-starter with general to advanced mechanical ability responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of tractors, farm and vineyard equipment including implements, company vehicles, trucks, forklifts, pesticide and fertilizer application and seed processing equipment under the direct supervision and guidance of the Shop Supervisor and or the Farm Manager. Some fabrication and welding skills a plus, but not mandatory.
Basic Job Responsibilities
Inspect vehicles, tractors and other equipment for needed repairs/ adjustments
Perform required maintenance on vehicles, trucks, tractors, and related farm and seed processing including support equipment
Make minor to major repairs on all the equipment listed above
Ability to work with all company employees as a team member to achieve required results and success in a diverse operating environment
Key Qualifications
Basic to advanced knowledge of the operation of internal combustion and diesel engines and related power trains
Basic to advanced knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems
Basic to advanced knowledge of servicing requirements and maintenance procedures for motor vehicles, tractors, and seed processing equipment
Basic to advanced mechanical ability and skills
Ability to analyze and solve problems
Ability to work alone with guidance and follow instructions of the Shop Supervisor and Farm Manager.
Ability to plan work effectively and efficiently to achieve required results
Ability to work safely by embracing, participating, and following company safety and training programs
Ability to communicate effectively by phone and keep accurate written records
Ability to work with outside vendors to order parts and supplies
Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license to operate company vehicles
Farm Endorsement and or Commercial License and the ability to get one is a plus
Technical and trade school certifications or attendance is a plus, but not required
Able to qualify for the Company’s insurance carrier to operate on-road vehicles
Experience Desired
Interpreting and applying technical information contained in mechanical maintenance, service, and repair manuals
Diagnosing, listening to, and visually inspecting vehicles, forklifts, tractors, vineyard, and seed processing equipment to detect mechanical wear, damage, or reasons for failure
Following instructions for adjusting and repairing mechanical systems
Using common tools associated with repair of motor vehicles, tractors, and seed processing equipment.
Physical Environment
Often working outdoors in extremes of heat/humidity/cold and other weather conditions
Exposed to dust, noise, gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, solvents and other flammable and or toxic materials
Works with flammable and toxic materials
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Work is strenuous involving pushing, pulling, gripping, standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping, awkward body positions, walking on soft or uneven surfaces while performing required duties in shop, field, and facilities.
