Job Title: Kitchen Assistant/Housekeeping
Seasonal: 5/1/24-10/31/24
Department: Overnight Camp
Reports To: Kitchen Manager
$15-$19/hour based on experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a seasonal position at YMCA Camp DeBoer, a camp and conference center located at beautiful Lake of the Woods. The position will ensure that wares for the front and back of the house are clean and sanitized. They will also assist with other functions and operations of the camp kitchen/dining area as needed as well as maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the camp facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
Washes all wares including pots, plans, flatware, and glasses, by hand or using dishwashers.
Correctly places and stores clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas.
Stocks serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other assigned areas with necessary dishes and utensils.
Moves dishwashing supplies and equipment from storage to work area by hand or using hand trucks.
May assist in cleaning and preparing various foods for cooking and/or serving, as directed.
Ensures work areas remain safe, clean, and orderly, adhering to all company, local, and state guidelines regarding health, safety, and sanitation.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
2. Perform janitorial and general maintenance duties
Sweep, scrub, clean floors, wash windows and screens, put up and take down screens and storm windows.
Keep shower houses and main lodge bathrooms stocked and clean on a daily basis.
Dispose of trash and waste.
QUALIFICATIONS
Desire to work in a food service setting preferred.
Knowledge of or experience in dishwashing/housekeeping preferred.
Must successfully pass criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).
Ability to safely and properly use kitchen equipment.
Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency.
COMPENSATION
$15-$19/hour based on experience
On-site housing housing available.
