Awaken Daycare is excited to offer a registered Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Apprenticeship opportunity in partnership with the Portland State and the Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries (BOLI).
This "earn while you learn" program combines paid on-the-job training with structured classroom instruction, mentorship, and professional development. Upon successful completion, you will receive a nationally recognized journey-level credential and college credits toward an ECE certificate or degree.
Key Responsibilities
Assist lead teachers in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children and families, fostering a sense of belonging and open communication.
Supervise children during all scheduled activities, including indoor/outdoor play, meals, and rest periods, ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment.
Assist with children's health needs, including diapering/toileting, hand washing, and general hygiene practices.
Observe and assess children's progress to inform instruction and individualized learning plans.
Collaborate with staff, mentors, and program coordinators, attending all required staff meetings, planning sessions, and training.
Maintain accurate records, including daily reports, progress notes, and other required documentation, in compliance with state regulations.
Qualifications
Minimum Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and register with the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR).
Skills: A strong passion for early childhood education, reliability, flexibility, and a desire to learn and grow professionally.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, sit in child-size chairs or on the floor for extended periods, and move quickly to ensure child safety.
