Legal Assistant

Solo practitioner based in Oregon City seek a legal assistant (mostly remote) for approximately 20 hours per week. Practice areas include criminal defense litigation and personal injury. This position is hybrid: normal hours of operation are Mon-Thurs 9am-2pm, with a need to appear in-office once a week. Hours are flexible but need to be completed between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Strong preference for in-office at the beginning of employment for on the job training with attorney. Desktop and laptop provided.

Position Description:

The legal assistant is responsible for working directly with the attorney to support their practice. The ideal candidate for this job has a skill set that includes strong technology skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize many projects with multiple people, and adhere to fast-paced deadlines. Legal experience is not required, so do not be intimidated by the following list! Most valued is someone who is detail-oriented with a desire to learn, dependable, and possesses word-processing skills.

Duties:

Maintain client confidence by keeping client/attorney information confidential.

Organize and maintain client files primarily in electronic form, update conflicts database and search for conflicts, enter and maintain contacts, docket deadlines, organize case information, and following-up on delegated assignments.

Prepare and submit court filings, including motions and declarations.

Reception duties, including answering and directing inquiries from clients; receive, scan, file, and route in-bound mail; finalize and deliver out-bound mail.

Proofread (for minor spelling and punctuation mistakes, typos, and inconsistencies)

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

Strong skills in and experience with Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and One Drive or Google Drive.

Experience with Clio case management software.

Proficiency with PDF software.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Willingness to ask questions and take direction, especially when learning a new skill or program; willingness to offer suggestions if more efficient processes are possible.
