Pet Store Customer Service

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives and performing assigned tasks, while providing excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence:

Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent sales service.

Assess customers needs and provide assistance and information on product features.

Welcome customers to the store and answer their questions.

Actively seek out customers in the store and offer assistance.

Process POS (point of sale) transactions.

Maintain in-stock and presentable condition of assigned areas (i.e., down stocking and front facing products).

Remain knowledgeable on partner brands, products offered and discuss available options.

Team up with co-workers to ensure proper customer service.

Build productive trust relationships with customers.

Comply with inventory control procedures.

Suggest ways to improve sales (e.g. marketing activities, changing the store’s design).

Perform janitorial duties.

Ensure the safety and well-being of small animals, including mice, rats and small reptiles.

Complete all documentation associated with any of the above job duties.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Previous pet retail experience is desired.

Strong multitasking skills.

Solid communication and interpersonal abilities.

Passion for pets and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Working conditions

Working environment is favorable, generally working inside with moderate noise.

Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Physical requirements

This position is non-sedentary.

Being visible, accessible to and communicate with customers throughout the store is essential.

Ability to move and transfer merchandise, weighing up to 50 pounds, throughout the store.

Ability to occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.

Ability to frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.

Ability to move throughout the store for an entire shift.

Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary for warehouse duties (e.g. forklift, pallet jack, dolly, handtruck).

Ability to constantly operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other store equipment.

Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation.

Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members and customers.

Ability to process information through the point-of-sale system.

Ability to handle and be in contact with small animals, including mice/rats and small reptiles.
