WELDER/SHIPFITTER SUMMARY
Fabricate, Fit and Weld a variety of metal surfaces or pipe (carbon steel, CUNI, stainless steel, etc.) for vessels in all stages of repair and modernization, and industrial projects, using various types of welding equipment. Welds deck and bulkhead plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies. Work includes assembling, cutting, and grinding, tacking, fitting, and installation of piping and installation of fittings and valves.
Performs layout work according to blueprints or reference lines.
Most work will be performed dockside/aboard vessels. Some projects may require pre-fabrication of parts at our shop in NE Portland.
Performs related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
WELDER/SHIPFITTER QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
High school or equivalent education preferred
Minimum three years of experience preferred
Completion of trade school program in welding helpful but not required
Knowledge of welding procedures, and various types of welding equipment, proficient in flat, vertical, overhead, and horizontal arc, SMAW and flux-core, tig welding and air arc skills. Proficiency in welding SMAW, (6010, 6011, & 7018); GTAW (CUNI, Stainless, Aluminum, Carbon) with sil-braze, etc.
Ability to burn efficiently and with good quality using a hand-cutting torch
Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift.
Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English), including Blueprint reading and layout skills
Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.
Able to work independently as well as in a team environment
Work performed both onboard ship and in shop
Travel and overtime may be required up to 50%
A welding/proficiency test will be conducted prior to hire
