PIPEFITTER SUMMARY

Installs and repairs shipboard piping systems such as steam, heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, and oil lines following blueprints, layouts and work orders and using hand tools and shop machines. Determines sizes and schedules of pipes/take off of fittings utilized in the fabrication and/or repair of systems.

Tacking and fitting of all types of pipe (carbon steel, CUNI, stainless steel, sil-braze, etc.) Disassembles/assembles, pipe install and/or removal, and/or repair of shipboard systems.

Cut, bend, weld, braze, grind, and/or burn pipes to fit and connect for ship board installation.

Inspect and tag out piping systems; air tests tanks/voids; hydrostatically test the piping system and equipment.

Operates pipe threading machine, pipe bender, etc.

Lays out, targets and fabricates various pipe to quality assurance standards. Makes competent weldments, i.e., targeting pipe and hanger.

Repairs, packs and adjusts valves.

Reads blueprints and spool sheets to identify locations of various pipe systems.

Determines sizes and schedules of pipes/take off of fittings (90o, 45o, and tees) utilized in the fabrication and/or repair of systems.

Tests installed systems for leaks and to ensure that system meets specifications. Understand, perform, and effectively communicate the results of quality assurance and non-destructive testing procedures.

Performs rigging (as applicable to pipe and valve systems) – standards, terms, signals and safe working loads.

Welding and associated tasks for work in shop or at customer’s facilities in pre-fabricating new structures or assemblies, or repair of structures.

Most work will be performed dockside/aboard vessels. Some projects may require pre-fabrication of parts at our shop in NE Portland.

Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

PIPEFITTER QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

High school or equivalent education preferred

Minimum three years of experience preferred

ABS certifications a plus

TWIC card a plus

Knowledge of basic marine piping systems, and reading blueprint and spool sheets

Must be able to perform marine pipefitting, bending, burning, read blueprints, and follow exact tolerances

Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift

Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English)

Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings

Able to work independently as well as in a team environment

Work performed both onboard ship and in shop. Travel and overtime may be required

A welding/proficiency test will be conducted prior to hire
